Northern Guiding is led by Mark Killala who has walked throughout the UK. My favourite walks are in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and I’ve completed numerous long distance paths such as the Coast to Coast and the Pennine Way. I am very experienced in the outdoors.
Mark Killala – a passion for the outdoors
I’ve been keen on the outdoors since childhood and this passion led me to complete the Mountain Leader Training course in Wales in 2011 then the Mountain Leader Assessment course in 2012 which took place in the Lakes/Dales.
I really enjoyed the mountain leader training and assessment and found it to be hardest thing I’ve ever done. With the right navigation I was able to endure some of the toughest conditions I’d ever come across and took great pride and satisfaction in passing the course.
Safety and qualifications
To ensure your safety I have the Summer Mountain Leader Award as well as being qualified in First Aid. I am fully insured and DBS checked. I have also completed an Expedition Leadership course and a Safety Management course.
I’m currently working towards the Winter Mountain Leader Award and have plans to complete additional courses and qualifications.
Northern Guiding Duke of Edinburgh Awards
In September 2015 I became an Assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh Award so I can assess Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions and my aim is to expand Northern Guiding in the future.
I undertake commercial leading for companies, such as the coast to coast walk and the Yorkshire 3 peaks. I am a member of professional organisations such as Mountain Leader Training, the BMC and the RA.
The majority of events listed in my calendar pages will be led by me with the help of hand picked instructor’s. The Scottish Winter Hill Skills course will be led by a winter mountain leader hand picked by me.
